ENGINEERS WEEK KICK-OFF EXHIBIT
Date & Time: Monday, February 17, 2025 at 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Location: Windward Mall Center Court
The Hawaii Council of Engineering Societies (HCES) invites you to the Engineer’s Week Kick-Off Exhibit on February 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Windward Mall center court. Explore exciting information tables focused on science, engineering, math, and technology, hosted by professional societies, government agencies, and engineering companies. ACECH will be hosting a table this year and will have SWAG, fun activities, and treats so stop by and bring your friends and family! Additionally, ASCE Hawaii will be hosting a screening of the film, Cities of the Future, at Regal Windward Stadium 10.
ASCE and MacGillivray Freeman Films – the team that brought Dream Big: Engineering Our World to giant screens around the world – have united to produce a new film inspired by ASCE’s Future World Vision initiative: Cities of the Future. The film’s immersive IMAX experience allows audiences to “step into the future.”
Cities of the Future features five young ASCE members working to solve the world’s most pressing challenges with inspiring solutions. It also follows a team of middle school students as they compete in the Future City Competition.

Film Synopsis: Imagine stepping 50 years into the future and finding smart cities designed to optimize sustainability and resilience. Renewable energy is a primary power source, space-based solar power provides energy all day, and getting around is as easy as stepping into individualized travel pods that run on little or no energy. This isn’t science fiction. Engineers are making plans for this future world right now, and it’s coming to the giant screen!

Let’s end Engineers Week 2025 with a bang! Join us at HCES’s awards banquet on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Cocktails start at 5:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:00 p.m. and our program begins at 6:45 p.m.! We are excited to announce that we will have Peter Savio as our Engineers Week 2025 Keynote Speaker. This banquet is held annually to recognize the outstanding accomplishments, contributions, and achievements of individuals in the different specialized fields of engineering. 2025 HCES Lifetime Achievement Award
Janice C. Marsters, Ph.D., P.E.
Janice recently retired from Haley & Aldrich after an illustrious 30+ year career that has left a profound impact on Hawai‘i’s engineering community. Her contributions span groundbreaking infrastructure projects, impactful legislative advocacy, and dedicated mentorship that have advanced the profession and shaped the engineering landscape in Hawai‘i. Janice is a Past President and National Director of ACECH and was the recipient of ACECH’s inaugural Kāko‘o Award in 2014. Janice is recognized as a Fellow of ACEC and has served as Chair of ACEC’s Risk Management Committee, and Vice Chair and Senior Vice Chair of ACEC. ACECH is proud to have nominated Janice for the HCES Lifetime Achievement Award and congratulates her on this well-deserved honor!

2025 Engineer of the Year
Glenn Miyasato, Ph.D., P.E., S.E.
Glenn has been a practicing structural engineer in Hawai‘i for 30+ years and has worn many hats throughout his career and volunteerism – as Co-founding Principal of ACECH member firm MKE Associates LLC; as a lecturer at UH Manoa; as a Past President of both ASCE Hawaii and SEAOH; as a past Director of ACECH; and as current member on several National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) committees. Glenn is the definition of a servant leader.

2025 Young Engineer of the Year
Alicia Suzuki, P.E.
Alicia Suzuki, P.E. is an accomplished civil engineer and Principal at Kennedy Jenks (KJ), where she leads operations for KJ’s Hawaiʻi team. She earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa. As a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Hawaiʻi, Alicia has had early success in projects and leadership throughout her career. Alicia’s innovative approach and commitment to excellence have earned her numerous accolades, including the ACEC Young Professional of the Year Award in 2022. She was recently selected as a 2025 Top Young Professional for the Engineering News-Record (ENR) West region.

2025 Student Engineer of the Year
Travis Nitta
Travis is completing his BS CE this spring in the structures track and is in the Honors Program. He is a UH Regent’s Scholar and a very proud alum of Henry J. Kaiser High School, class of 2021! While achieving these feats, Travis serves as the President of ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) student chapter and is a member of XE, the national civil engineering honor society, and serves as the XE liaison to our ECUH (Engineering Council at the University of Hawai’i), the group helping run our HolmesComing each fall. He is also academically active in design projects and technical paper competitions and submissions, and was the recipient of additional awards including the SEAOH (Structural Engineering Association of Hawai’i) Scholarship and the Outstanding ASCE Student Chapter member awards.
