ACECH September 2024 President’s Message

This summer has been a busy and productive season for ACECH as we continue to push forward with our mission to elevate the engineering profession and expand the impact of our organization for our members.

At our September 4 General Membership Meeting (GMM), we held a Committee Rush, and the turnout was fantastic—with nearly 60 members in attendance! This level of engagement allowed us to make significant progress in shaping our committee structure and clarifying expectations for chairs and members alike.

We are excited to share that in addition to creating a new Climate Resiliency Committee, we have established a framework to group related committees:

  • Agency: Engaging with city and state agencies and departments
  • Collaboration: Partnering with other organizations and groups
  • Events: Organizing special events and activities
  • Advocacy: Driving legislative initiatives and promoting risk management tactics and strategies
  • Support: Growing membership, board succession planning, and supporting scholarships
  • Climate Resiliency: Addressing climate challenges through engineering solutions

Additionally, earlier this month, ACECH Board Members and Brennan Morioka from the UH College of Engineering met with the Chamber of Commerce to provide input on the Chamber’s Engineering Sector Partnership Program, which aims to build pathways for students to pursue careers in engineering. This initiative perfectly aligns with ACECH’s vision of fostering the next generation of engineers, and we look forward to hearing more about the program at our October GMM.

Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you in October as we continue to grow, collaborate, and lead the way for Hawaii’s engineering community!
