ACECH August President’s Message

Aloha!

As the Maui wildfire rescue and recovery efforts continue, what has been explicitly evident is the Aloha Spirit being demonstrated throughout our islands and across the world. Whether it be monetary donations, the giving of food, clothing, or daily necessities, the overwhelming generosity and empathy towards the Lahaina community and its victims exemplifies the human spirit of giving and caring for others unconditionally.

Thank you to our member firms who have committed their support to Maui island and its journey towards recovery. ACECH member firms have reported contributing over $150,000 thus far and we continue to encourage others to be a part of this movement. Our group’s continued support to organizations such as the American Red Cross, Hawaii Community Foundation, or Maui United Way, will assist with the extremely lengthy process of rebuilding Lahaina and healing the Maui community who have been directly affected by this unfortunate tragedy.

Once again, the Emerging Leaders Committee organized a successful “Meet and Mingle” pau hana event on July 12, 2023. Over 130 attendees, including college students and emerging leaders, interacted and networked with engineers from our members firms. Mainland college students made connections and were exposed to future career opportunities post-graduation, and emerging leaders continued to develop relationships that will aid in their journey as future leaders within our industry.

If you have never attended one of ACEC’s national conferences, I highly encourage you to attend the 2023 Fall Conference held on October 15th-18th in Austin, Texas. The Fall Conference is an excellent opportunity to learn about the many benefits of ACEC through educational sessions covering topics such as workforce shortages, bridging generational divides, and managing the everchanging technical world like Artificial Intelligence. The conference is also a great way to network with other engineering executives and learn about varying business practices. For more information, visit 2023 ACEC Fall Conference.
