ACECH October President’s Message

Aloha,

Congratulations to our Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) Cohort 4 for completing their 9-month journey. Cohort 4’s graduation on October 12 was the culmination of rigorous day-long learning sessions, intense individual and group projects, and challenging exercises. The ELP provided cohort members with opportunities to aid in their development of becoming strong leaders in our industry. I am inspired and proud of our future leaders’ drive, dedication, and integrity. I look forward to the future and watching the positive impact they have on the engineering industry.

If you missed our last General Membership Meeting (GMM) on October 11, you missed a doozy. ACEC nationally-recognized speaker, Peter Atherton, presented “Opt-in” – The Evolution of Current and Next Gen Employee Engagement. Peter engaged the audience with interesting and eye-opening philosophies on leadership and management in regards to retaining workforce. The presentation can be accessed here and I encourage everyone to view his work and philosophies. Mark your calendars and don’t miss our next GMM breakfast on Wednesday, November 8 at Oahu Country Club. Recent graduates from the ELP will be presenting summaries of their capstone projects including topics ranging from staff retention, permitting, workforce development, and aging infrastructure.

The 2023 ACEC Fall Conference in Austin Texas concluded on October 18. Eight firm members attended the conference and represented the Great 808 State. The Conference offered opportunities for collaborative discussions on business practices during CEO roundtables and informative educational sessions ranging from Controversial Contract Provisions, Changing Technology: AI, M&A Trends and Valuations, ESG Disclosures, Recruitment Strategies and Retaining Talent, and Marketing Strategies that Differentiate and Create Results. If you have not yet attended an ACEC Conference, I encourage you to connect with one of the Board of Directors to learn about the many committees and educational sessions available, as well as the many relationships you can build to help your company grow and thrive.

The 2024 Engineering Excellence Awards Competition and Gala is just around the corner. In a few weeks, be on the lookout for information to submit your amazing projects for the competition.
