ACECH April President’s Message

Aloha, thank you very much for your membership to ACECH and ACEC. It is a great organization to belong to thanks to you. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to serve.

Hope everyone is doing well, staying busy and having FUN!

We are excited to announce the triumphant return of our City and State Symposium on May 16, 2023 at the Japanese Cultural Center. We have a great lineup of speakers from all islands and will also be conducting a very short annual meeting during lunch. The event will be followed by a Pau Hana Happy Hour where we can relax, reconnect and be happy. Click here for additional information and sponsorship opportunities. Thank you, Shannon Holman, Jordan Tottori and team, for all your hard work in putting this together!

Thank you, Kyle Kaneshiro, for an informative April GMM. The topic of the virtual presentation “It’s all in the Details” was risk management, what is insurable and what wording to look out for. We had a whopping 132 participants in the meeting, what a successful and informative event! Thank you, Frank Goto and Karen Hong, for all your insight and your advice to help keep us out of trouble and doing what we do best.

Our ACECH-AIA-GAC committee is back up and running. We are collaborating with our architect and contractor friends in an effort to bring our industries closer together. We have some fun and exciting events planned for 2023, stay tuned.

The 2023 Legislative session is heading towards the finish line. We have been tracking and providing testimony on many bills during this session. Most have dropped out, but of note is legislation relating to the procurement process. Our legislative committee has been busy collaborating with AIA and other government agencies to make sure the bill is properly worded to help preserve the procurement process yet allow government flexibility to accomplish their goals. Thank you very much Charles Jury and our hardworking Legislative Committee.

NAVFAC Pacific has announced the award of a $2.8 Billion Contract Task Order for the Pearl Harbor Dry Dock Replacement. Congratulations to WSM Pacific SIOP JV (WSP, Stantec and Moffitt & Nichol) for the design and Dragados/Hawaiian Dredging/Orion JV on being awarded the construction contract. This project will be for the construction of Dry Dock 5, which will allow the Navy to continue to service the Virginia-class nuclear submarines and larger surface ships.

As a reminder ACEC Member Certification is this month, you should have received an email regarding this.

Thank you very much for entrusting us with the opportunity to serve such a great organization. Wishing you the best for 2023!
